artMOBILE illustrates the New Bedford Art Museum's mission: "To engage the public in experiencing, understanding and appreciating art."
As the children of New Bedford eagerly await artMOBILE's 12th season, the New Bedford Art Museum invites you to participate in this vital youth art education program.
Through NBAM's artMOBILE, children who might otherwise not participate in creative art experiences enjoy a FREE Summer arts outreach program at 20 scheduled sites each week. Two brightly painted purple vehicles — a refurbished school bus and a minivan — transport art supplies to community sites where experienced museum educators facilitate dynamic art projects related to current exhibits at the Museum.
Over the past 11 seasons artMOBILE's impact has been substantial. Each summer, we record between 2,000 and 2,500 "youth visits." Many children return every week, with as many as 500 to 800 individual children each summer. Demand for programming by community organizations requesting artMOBILE visits is evidence of the importance and success of the program.
In addition to bringing art activities to children in the community over the eight-week summer break, samples of participants' artwork are collected for a museum exhibit each fall. The artMOBILE 2006 exhibit, on display from late September through October 16, culminates with a special "Closing Reception" open to all on AHA! Night.
Your Support
A sponsorship of $5,000 guarantees a full week of programming at 20 different sites in the children's own neighborhoods. A $1,000 sponsorship ensures a full day of activity for an average of 100 children. With two hours of programming at each site, the total cost is under $6 per hour for each child. Your support safeguards this ongoing art program.
Your name, or your business name, prominently placed on artMOBILE and at the museum entrance recognizes your contribution. (Anonymous donations and names in tribute of others can also be arranged.)
